TWOWS at the TWAS General Conference, Durban, October 20-23, 2009
TWOWS members (and TWAS Fellows) Dr. Farida Shah (Malaysia) and Dr. Lilliam Alvarez (Cuba) attended the TWAS General Conference, along with Dr. Sophia Huyer, TWOWS Senior Advisor.
A highlight of the conference for TWOWS was presentation to Dr. Alvarez of a certificate formally inducting her as a TWAS Fellow in recognition of her work in mathematics.
After the conference, Drs. Alvarez and Huyer participated in a "Meet the Scientist" event at a high school for science and technology. Six scientists participated in three different events organized by the Departments of Education and Science and Technology, intended to expose students to scientists and research from different parts of the world.
